Click2Daily: Catching up with 100 Men Who Give a Damn - Houston Chapter

HOUSTON – KPRC2's Leigh Frillici checked out the 100 Men Who Give a Damn - Houston group on Monday.

The organization is relatively new, and it’s a cool concept.

What you need to know:

It's founded by some Houston business men who were contacted by a Dallas branch of 100 Men Who Give a Damn. It's not just a 100 guys. Any guy who comes to an event and willing to write a check for a $100 or more to the winning charity can become a member. Why just guys? Well, there's a woman's group too and their name is 100 Women Who Give a Damn. Once a year to the two organizations hold a joint event and the winning charity from that night receives money from both groups.

What charities are eligible?

501(c)(3)'s. If that's your charity, you can apply to 100 Men Who Give a Damn. The names of the charities are put into a hat and three are drawn.

How is a charity picked?

Those three lucky charities give a five-minute presentation to the group of businessmen. The men vote and whoever gets the most votes takes home a check from all the members who are there.

How much can a charity receive?

It depends on how many people show up that night. Anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000.

When does 100 Men Who Give a Damn meet?

They meet quarterly.

100 Men Houston meets again:
Nov. 7 from 5:45 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
Lounge Next Door at Ibiza
2450 Louisiana Street
Houston, TX 77006

Can women come too?

Of course! They are hoping for a lot of cross pollination. In other words, that the women who attend will join the 100 Women Who Give a Damn. And, likewise, if men go to the 100 Women Who Give a Damn events that those guys will join 100 Men Who Give a Damn. The more people who get involved the more money a lucky charity can walk away with. At the end of the day, the organizations give a damn and hope to get as much money to the charities as possible.

My interview with Dave Lee. He's a co-founder with 100 Men Who Give A Damn. Cool charity. Watch this,to learn more!
