Big rig overturns in northeast Houston neighborhood

HOUSTON – Hazmat crews were called Wednesday to the scene of an overturned 18-wheeler in a northeast Houston neighborhood.

According to investigators, the driver was trying to make a turn around 12:15 a.m. when the truck rolled over onto the sidewalk on Harbor and Brownwood and landed on a fire hydrant. The hydrant punctured a hole in the truck's tank.

Officials said the tank was carrying glycerin, which is not a hazardous material.

The driver of the big rig was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The road in the area is closed as crews work to clean up the mess and wreckage.
