Apartment residents left with no mail service as management stalls with mailbox repairs

HOUSTON – Residents at the Falls of Braeswood Apartments said they haven't received mail in the last two weeks.

It came as a surprise to them, but the postal service said it warned management this would happen.

"I don't know what I've missed," Kevin Lacy said.

Lacy went to the local post office to find out what was going on, and the post office said they have refused to deliver to the apartments until the mailboxes are fixed.

Some of the mailbox doors don't lock, some don't have doors and the post office also said the boxes weren't secure to the wall.

In a statement, the USPS said:

"The Postal Service notified management for this complex two weeks ago that the carrier for this location has been instructed to make no further deliveries until the apartment owner or manager makes needed repairs to ensure the security of the mail."

Lacy asked management about the problem.

"Management told me he would have to get in touch with contractors, get estimates and it would take him at least four to six months to get the mailboxes fixed," Lacy said. "I was told to forward my mail to a friend or get a PO box and have mail delivered there."

KPRC asked the managers when the mailboxes would be fixed, but they declined comment.

Residents including Lacy are wondering what to do next.

A spokesperson for the USPS said they will hold mail by request.

Normally that's for up to two weeks, but residents can request a hold of up to 30 days.
