Man says father was run over before his body was found

HOUSTON – The son of a man whose body was found Wednesday near north Harris County checking cashing store said his father was run over before his body was discovered.

The gruesome discovery was made about 7:30 a.m. near the corner of Aldine Mail Route and JFK Boulevard.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a tweet that the man’s body was found inside an SUV and blood was found at the scene.

Eighteen-year-old Jesus Diaz is heartbroken. He identified the victim as his father.

“Knowing that I don’t have my dad with me no more, that’s just something hard for me,” said Diaz.

He says his father’s body was found in the back of an SUV next to a check cashing store behind a locked gate that had been cut open.

“How are they going leave his body like that, like he is a dog or something," said Diaz. "It’s really disturbing to me."

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation. Detectives hope clues in the SUV will help lead to an arrest.

Right now, they are trying to determine who was driving the SUV.

“What I would like to see happen the guy who did it and dropped off the truck, (is to) pay for what he did,” said Diaz.

Diaz says his father was in his mid-40s and worked in construction. He had four children and helped a lot of people find jobs.

“(He was) just a great guy," Diaz said. "I find no reason for someone to come and do something like that to him."

Authorities are still in the early stages of their investigation and are unable to confirm Diaz’s story or identify the victim.
