2nd suspect in fatal shooting of shopping center security guard arrested in Mexico
HOUSTON – A man identified as a suspect in a deadly shooting of a Houston security guard was arrested and charged with murder, Houston police said.
Saul Cruz, 71, was sitting in his marked car while working a shift as a security guard at the 4700 block of Anderson Street when two people armed with an AK-47 and a pistol approached his vehicle from behind. Authorities said the duo shot Cruz as he sat inside his vehicle.
The two then reached inside the vehicle, took Cruz's service weapon and fled, authorities said. Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
One man, now-25-year-old Daniel Moreno, was arrested in December 2015. Police maintained that they believed now-24-year-old Justin Vasquez, was in Mexico.
Vasquez was taken into custody in Mexico and was placed in the Harris County Jail Monday.
