HOUSTON – Two months into the school year, the Houston Independent School District released its District Improvement Plan for 2018-2019.

What is the district improvement plan?
It is a detailed outline of how HISD will achieve a variety of academic performance goals and priorities for this school year. This year's document is 159 pages.
Why is it just now being released?
The administration wanted the HISD board of trustees to vote on the plan at last Thursday's contentious board meeting but decided to postpone a vote until the Nov. 8 meeting.
"Trustees expressed a desire to allow time for the public to review the plan," said HISD press secretary Sherry Williams.
The administration publicly posted the plan with a comment section to its website on Monday and Tuesday.
