1 killed in southwest Houston shooting, police say

HOUSTON – A man in his 30s was shot and killed in Southwest Houston while spending time with his girlfriend, police said.

The shooting was reported about 7 a.m. at a home in the 8000 block of Cobblefield Lane, near Braes Forest Drive.

“I’ve been staying here almost all my life, so nothing like this happened in this neighborhood," said Henry Ubah, a neighbor.

“It’s unusual for that to happen here," said Charles Sample, another neighbor. "I mean it's a real quiet area. Never had any disruption over here.”

Crime scene tape and investigators surrounded the home for hours Monday morning.

Investigators said a girlfriend and her boyfriend were together at the home when another man showed up between 6 and 7 a.m. There was a fight, police said, and that man shot the boyfriend once in the back. The boyfriend died in the driveway of the home. The gunman took off.

Investigators said they found a gun laying in the grass by a sidewalk around the corner from the shooting scene.

Investigators interviewed the girlfriend.

Police did not release a description of the shooter or how he’s connected to the couple.
