Gunman steals $2K in vape merchandise during robbery

KATY, Texas – An employee at a smoke shop in Katy is OK after a suspected robber stole around $2,000 worth of merchandise and money from the store.

The entire robbery was caught on surveillance cameras from around the store.

The manager of Tokin Eddie’s on Fry Road said that, while her employee was mopping and closing up the shop at 10 p.m. Sunday, a man wearing a Cowboys hoodie and sunglasses, who had a black bandana around his mouth, walked in.

“A guy walks in right after our last customer walks out and, within a few seconds, he has a gun pulled out and he’s telling her to turn off the lights, lock the store and show him where the safe and register is,” said Alexandria Jackson, the store’s manager.

“For about five minutes, he was walking around, collecting items, while threatening her, saying, 'Stay on the ground. Do as I say,'” said Jackson.

She believes the gunman possibly scoped out the store ahead of time.

Surveillance video shows the man in the hoodie pull out a handgun, in his left hand. The employee turns off the light and walks the man to the cash register.

The man then tells the female worker to get on the floor as he takes money, along with items on the shelves.

The video then shows the man instructing the woman to lock the door as he continues to stuff a duffel bag, and hands her a bag to fill.

The video shows him tell her to get on the ground again. She then opens the door for him, and that’s when she called police.

“Physically, he didn’t harm her in any way, (but) she, of course, is shaken,” said Jackson.

Along with money, the man took vapes, e-liquids, concentrate oils and batteries.

“(I’m) Very disgusted because, the way he took everything, it’s obvious he’s going to resell it himself,” said Jackson. “The stuff he took, I just bought. It’s all brand-new stuff, not even a week on the shelf. He’s trying to take advantage of people getting healthy by taking everything and selling it on the market himself."

The shop filed a report with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

If you recognize the gunman in the video, call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477). You could receive a cash reward if a tip leads to an arrest.
