18-year-old hit, killed on North Beltway 8 after chain of collisions

HOUSTON – A chain of car collisions and mechanical issues led to an 18-year-old's death Saturday morning on the North Beltway 8, officials said.

Shacory Brooks, 18, and her passenger in a Ford Fusion stalled around 2 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of North Beltway 8 near Vickery Drive.

After Brooks vehicle stalled, a person in a Nissan Pathfinder who did not see her vehicle, swerved and struck the right passenger side of the Ford, according to authorities.

Police said Brooks got out of her vehicle to assess the damage from the collision and was exchanging information with the driver of the Nissan when a Mitsubishi Gallant traveling east hit the woman, who was standing near her car.

Brooks died at the scene.
