Judge urges Houston area school districts to take action against teacher-student sex

Judge presided over case involving former Aldine ISD teacher

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A Harris County District judge wants Houston area superintendents to take action following an increase in sexual relationships between teachers and students.

Judge Mike McSpadden of the 209th District Court sent a letter to superintendents at Houston Independent School District, Aldine Independent School District and other local school districts.

The letter said in part, "If you haven't already installed safeguards to protect our children and our teachers, we hope you consider these options."

Judge McSpadden recently presided over the case of Alexandria Vera, a former Aldine ISD teacher who pleaded guilty to having a sexual relationship with an eighth-grade student.
