Houston selected as site of 2020 World Petroleum Congress

HOUSTON – Houston was chosen Thursday as the site of the 2020 World Petroleum Congress.

Mayor Sylvester Turner said Houston beat out Vancouver in a vote held in Bahrain.

The event draws nearly 10,000 top-level oil executives from around the world every three years, and has an estimated economic impact of nearly $80 million.

The last time Houston played host to the event was in 1987.

The 2017 World Petroleum Congress will be held in Istanbul.
