22-year-old man arrested by deputies after attempted bank robbery
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Patrol deputies from Harris County Sheriff’s Office District 1 were alerted to an attempted bank robbery at the Bank of America at 13331 S. State Highway 249 and Smilingwood Lane Friday around 9:05 a.m.
A 22-year-old man entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding money, according to reports. The teller pushed the alarm button to notify employees of the attempted robbery, deputies said.
Witnesses told deputies the man ran to a nearby Shell gas station and got into a black Chevrolet Camaro, which had been parked at a gas pump.
When an officer arrived at the gas station, he parked behind the Camaro and ordered the man to get out of the car. The man then drove away, hitting a van that had been parked at another gas pump. He then drove south on Smilingwood, attempting to avoid deputies.
The man lost control of his vehicle and struck a curb and crashed into a fence, deputies said. He was then taken into custody by deputies.
