HOUSTON – Two young children were found Wednesday wandering alone at a motel in northwest Houston, police said.

According to police, the manager of the hotel on Guhn Road off Highway 290 saw the 4-and 6-year-old girls walking alone around 8 p.m.

The 4-year-old had a black eye and contusions on her forehead, according to authorities.

Police said the children's mother was at work at the time, but returned to the motel before police arrived.

Police said the mother admitted to leaving the girls alone to go to work, and said she had also done so on previous occasions.

The children were not hurt.

Out of precaution the children were taken to the hospital and Child Protective Services is investigating.
