2 workers stuck in basket on side of Galleria-area building rescued

HOUSTON – Two workers trapped in a basket outside the 20th floor of a building near the Galleria have been rescued.

The call came in around 12:30 p.m. after the workers became stuck on the side of the Marathon Oil building in the 5500 block of San Felipe.

There is an electrical outage to the basket the workers are in.

Sky 2 aerials showed several firefighters on the roof preparing for a possible rescue.

Ruy Lozano with the Houston Fire Department said it's up to the commander at the scene to decide when or if a rescue will happen. Options include breaking the window, if it's not reinforced, near the workers, or rappelling down the side of the building.

Around 1:30 p.m. firefighters were able to pop out a window near the basket. A ladder was lowered and both the men and basket were secured by ropes to the building.

The two workers then climbed the ladder and step inside the building to safety.

Lozano said around 40 firefighters are on scene.
