Bank skimming operation could be part of Romanian crime ring

SEALY, Texas – Investigators with the Sealy Police Department are asking for the pubic's assistance in identifying a possible suspect in an ATM skimming operation. The man is on video placing a skimming device on an ATM.

The Department of Homeland Security has taken the lead on the investigation because it believes the man is a part of a Romanian crime ring. Montgomery County believes the ring may be in operation there as well.

The first crime occurred at a bank's drive through ATM on Sunday morning on Main Street in Sealy. Investigators believe at least 25 banking transactions were compromised.

Police said another bank on Highway 36 was targeted Tuesday. Dozens of bank customer accounts may have been compromised from this case as well.

Bank officials are working with account holders to prevent any losses to the ATM customers. Officials urge everyone to look closely at any card reader before inserting credit or debit cards into an ATM, gas pump, or any other card scanning device.
