Elderly man dies after crashing car into pool

HOUSTON – A man died Sunday after crashing a car through a brick wall and into a swimming pool in the Galleria area.

“Something went wrong. She said she thinks he hit the gas instead of the brake and the car went through the garage, down into the swimming pool,” said Ann Bolton.

Bolton described a very chaotic situation at the home on Potomac near Valley Forge. At about 2 p.m. Sunday, Bolton said an 85-year-old man who she called Mr. Moore was behind the wheel as her sister sat in the passenger's seat.

“He and my sister were together coming back from Bellville. He was taking her tomorrow to MD Anderson,” said Bolton.

All three were longtime friends.

Bolton said once the Tesla landed in the swimming pool it slowly dropped to the bottom, giving her sister time to escape through a window.

“He said, 'Get out of the car.' She got out of the car, trying to get him out of the car, but the way they're made with the console and the seat belts and everything, it just didn't happen,” Bolton said.

The 85-year-old man died at a hospital.

The medical examiner's office is performing an autopsy. The victim's name has not yet been released.
