According to police, another witness heard a gunshot and a scream, then saw a man get into a maroon car and drive off. The witness told police two men were later seen putting Vann into a silver Saturn, with a third man driving.

Police said the three men, who were Vann's friends at the apartment, were driving to Ben Taub General Hospital when they met up with an ambulance, which transported Vann to the hospital. He later died.

Police used information from witnesses to identify Dace and Henderson as suspects. They were arrested on Friday and police said they admitted to their roles in Vann's death.
