RICHMOND, Texas – Two men, an uncle and his nephew, were killed Friday in a mobile home fire in Richmond.

Firefighters were called around 2 a.m. to a home in the 900 block of Hinson near Highway 90.

One of the bodies was found in the back of the home, while the other was found near the front door as firefighters worked to put out the flames, investigators said.

A family member identified the men as Abel Garcia, who was in his late 60s, and Isaac Martinez who was in his mid-30s.

Abel Garcia's brother said Garcia was diabetic and a double amputee who had been wheelchair-bound for about seven years.

"When a brother goes, it kind of hits you a little harder," Albert Garcia said. "Somebody didn't slap you once, they slapped you twice and yes, it hurts. But life goes on, we have to be strong."

He said Martinez worked as a landscaper and had a heart of gold.

Neighbors tried to put out the fire with extinguishers but were unsuccessful, officials said.

A neighbor, called 911 before catching the flames on a cellphone video.

"It was really on fire a lot. It was just crazy. We saw all the truck come in and all the police and stuff," neighbor Tammy said.

Investigators said the fire appeared to stem from an accident that started in the kitchen. They have ruled the cause of the fire as undetermined.

There were no smoke alarms in the home, the fire marshal said.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account.
