A female student was driven to the West Oaks Urgent Care Center in west Houston after being shot in the back in a high school parking lot.

According to Houston PD lieutenant Larry Crowson, officials believe the victim was part of a group of students playing with a gun inside a parked car in the Hastings High School parking lot.

The victim was an 18-year-old woman, according to Crowson.

Crowson said three or four students were in the car and someone in the back seat started playing around with a gun and it went off, hitting the student, who was sitting in the driver’s seat. She was hit in the lower chest.

“Whoever else was in the car, took her out, moved her so they could drive the car and drove here to the urgent care,” Crowson told KPRC 2 photojournalist Matt James. She was then taken to the hospital.

The guy who accidentally shot her is not in custody and Crowson said police don’t think there’s any danger to the community.

He says police are working with the school to see if there’s any video they can provide.
