2 Houston-area teachers win tickets to Super Bowl LI

HOUSTON – Two Houston-area teachers thought they were getting some quality workshops in at the Houston Museum of Natural Science on Saturday, but they left with a chance to see Super Bowl LI for free.

"This is the first time I've ever won anything," said Tasha Leverton, a mother who home-schools her 12-year-old son.

"I was just screaming. I couldn't believe I won," said Lilliana Martinez, a second-grade teacher at Cimarron Elementary School in the Galena Park Independent School District.

Both Leverton and Martinez were in attendance Saturday at the Museum of Natural Science for the Educators Event, a collection of workshops featuring more than 400 teachers.

At the end of the event they drew names out of a bucket for various prizes. The big prize, of course, was tickets to Super Bowl LI.

Leverton and Martinez each won two tickets and plan to take their husbands.

"I was just so excited that I kind of got emotional because the Super Bowl is actually on my birthday, Feb. 5," Leverton said.

Martinez said going to the Super Bowl is a lot better than what she originally planned to do.

"Actually, we were just going to tailgate at my house, then that was it, but now we are going to the Super Bowl," Martinez said.

Both teachers will receive their tickets on Feb. 1, the Wednesday before the big game.
