Freebie Friday: Family activities for the weekend

Whether you're looking for adventure or just some laughs this weekend, we've got you covered with a full slate of freebies.

If you think you're funny and can think on your feet, take your humor to the next level with a free improv class tonight.

The Station Theater is at 1230 Houston Avenue just east of downtown. Every Friday night you can take a free improv class at 7:30 p.m. and then stick around for a free show. You do need to sign up here because space is limited. If you miss it this week, you can try again next friday.

Saturday or Sunday, celebrate Arbor Day by heading to Jesse Jones Park in Humble. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. you can take a nature walk to identify different types of trees, and then take home a sapling to plant.

Treat the kids to Frozen under the stars. You can watch the Disney hit on a giant screen at Central Green Park in Katy Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Continue the fun Sunday at the new Midtown Arts and Theater Center, or MATCH, at 3400 Main Street from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. You can catch live music, a performance, an indoor bounce house, face painting and balloon art.

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, more than 100 National parks that typically charge admission are free Monday. The closest to us is the Big Thicket National Preserve about 30 miles north of Beaumont.

Cheaptickets.com is also paying tribute to MLK with a give back get-away. You can nominate your favorite volunteer who serves the community explaining why they deserve the prize. Cheap Tickets will choose a volunteer and the person who nominated them to receive 2 free round trip airfare tickets anywhere in the U.S. and $300 each to use for your trip.

It's called a give back get-away because Cheap Tickets is encouraging people to take a trip where you volunteer or somehow give back in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King.

Our partner, Houston on the Cheap, has more free and cheap things to do this weekend on their site.
