As Seen On TV Tuesday: The Eggstractor

HOUSTON – The Eggstractor claims to make peeling hard-boiled eggs a breeze in its TV commercials, but does it actually work? Channel 2 is putting the odd, accordion-like device to the test.

Channel 2 anchor Lauren Freeman and her three boys boiled half a dozen eggs and got to work. They followed the directions, poking a hole in the small end of the egg with a piercer on the device. Then, they slightly cracked the big end of the egg, placed it into the holder and pushed down on the accordion.

Her son was persistent, but getting the egg through the Eggstractor was no small feat. And when the egg did finally come out, it wasn't exactly peeled perfectly. None of the six eggs tested came out on the first try, and none had all the shell removed.

"I could've hand-peeled them significantly faster," Freeman said.

For anyone who wants to try the Eggstractor themselves, it's on sale at Amazon for $14.99.
