HOUSTON – CVS Health said this week that it is recruiting qualified candidates to fill 15,000 jobs across the nation. More than 10,000 of the new roles are for full- and part-time licensed pharmacy technicians at CVS Pharmacy locations and will be filled as soon as possible, helping increase support for patients and fellow pharmacy professionals. Working under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, CVS Health pharmacy technicians process prescriptions, dispense medications, provide information to customers or health professionals and perform administrative tasks. They also administer COVID-19 tests at more than 4,000 drive-thru testing sites at select CVS Pharmacy locations across the country. Candidates for these opportunities can apply online and take an online virtual job tryout.

HOUSTON – Chevron Corp. is asking employees to reapply for positions as part of a “cost-cutting program expected to eliminate up to 15% of its workforce," according to Reuters. Nearly 700 employees in Houston will be laid off starting Oct. 23, according to a notice Chevron sent to the state of Texas. The layoffs will affect workers at Chevron’s downtown offices: 1400 Smith, 1500 Louisiana, 1600 Smith and 2 Allen Center, according to the Houston Chronicle. This summer, Chevron acquired Houston-based Noble Energy, and it is expected to make cuts and layoffs for redundant office positions. In total, the company announced plans to lay off 6,000 workers globally this year.

The pizza chain is looking to hire 300 employees for assistant manager and delivery driver positions across 65 franchise-owned stores in the Greater Houston area, including Baytown, Pasadena, Katy and Galveston. Greg Abbott announced Friday that he will sign an executive order next week laying out how Texas businesses will begin to reopen “in a way that is safe.” Texas has not yet reached the predicted mid-April peak of coronavirus cases.
