Fort Bend County is the latest Houston-area community to launch a drive-thru COVID-19 mega testing site. Leaders say the site is a necessity, citing โthe exponential increaseโ in demand by residents for COVID testing because of the rapid spread of the omicron variant.
Appointments for Memorial Hermannโs vaccine clinic in Sugar Land filled
SUGAR LAND, Texas โ All appointment slots for an upcoming vaccine clinic being held by Memorial Hermann in Sugar Land are full. Memorial Hermann is holding the drive-thru clinic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday and Monday at the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land. The goal is to vaccinate about 10,000 people during the two-day clinic. Originally, only educational and child care workers who are eligible to receive the vaccine according to the definition established by the Texas Department of State Health Services were allowed to make appointments. People who are vaccinated at the clinic will automatically have their second dose scheduled for either April 10 or April 11 at the same location.

SUGAR LAND, Texas โ All slots are filled for a Fort Bend County COVID-19 vaccine drive-thru clinic at Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land Wednesday, Feb. 3 to Saturday, Feb. 6, authorities said Tuesday. If you are 65 years of age or older, you are asked to complete a vaccination verification form that will confirm your eligibility for vaccination. Public registration is available only to those 65 years of age and older, consistent with the stateโs Phase 1B guidance. Approximately 16,000 COVID-19 vaccinations will be administered, Memorial Hermann said. Vaccine supply is limited and appointments will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis until the available appointments are full.
Fort Bend County judge announces Smart Financial Centre will be mega-voting site
SUGAR LAND, Texas โ Fort Bend County Judge K.P. During the news conference, George also announced that county residents will be able to cast their vote at any voting location in Fort Bend County, including Smart Financial Centre. According to Fort Bend County Commissioner Ken DeMerchant, there will 60 voting machines set up and they expect it to be one of the most-used sites for voting. With regard to mail-in ballots, Fort Bend County Elections Administrator John Oldham said the county has begun mailing ballots and people are working to catch up on any backlog. Free COVID-19 drive-thru testing site open Tuesday at Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land
SUGAR LAND, Texas โ United Memorial Medical Center announced the opening of a free COVID-19 drive-thru testing beginning at the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land during a news conference Tuesday. โItโs each one of our responsibilities to make sure we donโt pass this on,โ said Sugar Land Mayor Joe Zimmerman. โWe would ask that you bring your senior citizen, ... if [they] canโt come on their own.โVaron said relatively few seniors have stopped by the other UMMC drive-thru testing site, in Houston off Tidwell Rd., which concerns him. However, he said UMMC is working on mobile testing sites that can go test people who may not be able to leave their home. UMMC plans to also start mobile COVID-19 testing efforts as soon as this week to reach seniors who are unable to leave their homes, due to their increased susceptibility to this virus, Lee added.
