Houston Rodeo announces $14.1M in scholarships for 2021 educational commitment
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo announced Tuesday the approval of a $21,691,500 educational commitment to support Texas youth and statewide educational programs in 2021. According to a news release, a majority of the funds will be awarded through more than 800 scholarships valued at $14.1 million. In November, officials announced the 2021 season will mainly focus on the Junior Show and select Youth Show events, aligning with its mission of supporting Texas youth. [RELATED: Plans for 2021 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo announced]Recipients of educational program grants include the Houston Symphony, Texas Wildlife Association Foundation as well as other Texas organizations and institutions. Funds awarded to the graduate assistantship programs will be received by 11 universities in Texas including Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M and Texas Tech among others.

After abruptly ending its season in the first stages of the coronavirus pandemic, the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo is hopeful to return in 2021. “Together, we can work toward a safe and healthy Rodeo in 2021, but we need your support. In order to have a safe and healthy 2021 Rodeo, here is how you can help to #StaySafeForRodeo,” RodeoHouston said on its website. The pledge includes four recommendations for hopeful attendees to follow before they can buckle up for the rodeo in 2021. Since September, RodeoHouston has reassured the public that planning for the 2021 season is underway.

HOUSTON The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, but that wont stop the event from carrying on next year. Rodeo officials announced the new dates for the 2021 Barbecue Contest and the month-long livestock show and rodeo. The contest will be on Feb. 25 through 27 and the 2021 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo will start on March 2 and will run through March 21. Days after opening, the 2020 event was called off due to the imminent threat of the coronavirus pandemic in the Houston area. HOUSTON – Selena Quintanilla-Pérez will be remembered forever at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo after the rodeo announced they will induct the slain star in the Star Trail of Fame. Feb. 26 was the 25th anniversary of Selena’s last concert, which was at the rodeo. The planned induction is scheduled for Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at NRG center’s second floor outside the rodeo offices, coinciding with RodeoHouston’s Go Tejano Day. Selena will be the ninth star honored with a plaque to commemorate her years of music at the rodeo, including her three performances inside Reliant Astrodome. Several RodeoHouston entertainers paid tribute to the Queen of Tejano such as Becky G, Kacey Musgraves and Camilla Cabello in the past year.

HOUSTON – It’s finally Rodeo season and trail riders are making their way to Houston to participate in the annual parade for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The trail rides mark the beginning of the Houston Rodeo season, but why are the trail rides such a big part of the festivities? The trail rides started in 1952 when four men rode from Brenham, Texas to raise awareness for the Rodeo, according to the Rodeo website. In 1953, the trail ride went from four men to 80 people, and the next year, there were about 800 people signed up for the Salt Grass Trail Ride, according to the Rodeo.
