Read full article: Texas plants released nearly as much pollution during winter storm as during Hurricane Laura

The bulk of the emissions released during the winter storm and power crisis in Texas last week were from the Houston region, according to an analysis by Texas environmental groups. Plants tripping offline in the extreme cold led the Electric Reliability Council of Texas to order power outages to avoid overloading the grid. Those facilities spewed 3.5 million pounds of additional pollution in the air during the power crisis, according to an analysis of notices by Texas environmental groups Environmental Defense Fund, Environment Texas and Air Alliance Houston. AdThatโ€™s nearly as much air pollution released last summer during Hurricane Laura, when facilities in the Beaumont and Port Arthur area reported releasing an estimated 4 million pounds of emissions, according to the Houston Chronicle. Nearly 200 facilities in 54 counties reported excess air emissions between Feb. 11 and Monday, according to the analysis.
