2 killed when person they were trying to rob opens fire, sheriff says
HOUSTON – Two people were killed Wednesday when a person they were trying to rob in north Harris County opened fire, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. Gonzalez said a person was eating lunch in his car when two other people walked up and tried to rob him. He said that was when the person pulled out a gun and shot the two people trying to rob him. Gonzalez said the person jumped out of his car and fled the scene in the car believed to be driven by the two people attempting to rob him. The sheriff said investigators will forward their information to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office who will decide whether charges are necessary.

Church catches fire as result of homeless squatters trying to stay warm, officials say
A church and an attached residence were engulfed in flames Thursday night in north Houston, according to Harris County Sheriff’s Office. HOUSTON – A North Houston church and attached home were damaged by a fire Thursday night and investigators believe it was started by homeless individuals trying to stay warm. First responders arrived around 10 p.m. to find the Emmanuel Deliverance Temple in the 4700 block of Littlecrest burning. Assistance was requested of the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office whose investigators determined the fire began as a warming fire which got out of control. Deputies investigate Harris County’s first death that may be related to freezing weather
A man in Harris County died Monday afternoon after possible exposure to cold temperatures, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. This could mark the first weather-related death reported as the historic icy storm bears down southeast Texas. Deputies said a 60-year-old homeless man was found before noon at an overpass at Interstate 10 East at Sheldon Road. They said they believed the man died from the extreme weather conditions but they will conduct an autopsy. Man shot by off-duty HCSO deputy charged after suspected car break-in in Katy area, authorities say
HOUSTON – The man an off-duty Harris County Sheriff’s deputy shot at during a suspected car break-in is now charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, authorities said Monday. The deputy was not hurt, but Rudegelio Buning Tacorda, 47, was, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said. He was cut in the hand during a shootout with the deputy. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred Saturday at an apartment complex in the Katy area around 8:45 p.m. at 23614 Western Center Dr., near Katy Freeway and Highway 99. Officials said the suspect fled the scene, but he showed up at Memorial Hermann Hospital with the gunshot wound to the hand.

Noah Brown-Lewis, also known as “Nolo,” has been charged with murder for the death of James Christopher Garrett. Witnesses told officials that the two got into a heated argument, which they said was normal for the two friends to do, according to investigators. During the argument, Brown-Lewis pulled out a handgun and shot Garret several times, killing him before leaving the residents, investigators said.
