A witness told investigators the sedan was traveling south at a high rate of speed when it veered across the median into the northbound lanes, where it was struck by an oncoming truck.

After the impact, the sedan spun and came to rest in the roadway, investigators said. The driver of the sedan died at the scene. Deputies believe the victim is an adult woman, but her identity had not been confirmed as of Sunday morning.

The truck’s driver and passengers were not hurt, investigators said.

The crash remains under investigation.
