When they arrived, deputies found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen, homicide detectives said. The victim, described as a 34-year-old Black man, was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Investigators said the shooting happened outside a business known as the JV Ranch Ice House. Deputies interviewed witnesses who told them the victim had been involved in a verbal argument that escalated into a physical confrontation with another man.

Witnesses told detectives the victim then got into his vehicle and drove toward the other man. The other man fired one shot into the vehicle, striking the driver. The vehicle then crashed, and the driver was transported to the hospital, authorities said.

The man who fired the shot remained at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators, according to detectives. Crime Scene Investigators and homicide detectives continued working the scene Friday morning, and deputies said they have video evidence that still needs to be reviewed as the investigation continues.
