So far this school year, 2026-27, FBI Houston has investigated three school threats. Two resulted in arrests, including the recent arrests of three teenagers charged with third-degree state felony offenses of terroristic threat for allegedly planning a mass shooting at a high school in the Pasadena Independent School District.

FBI Houston’s Threat Mitigation Team said it worked quickly to investigate the threat and coordinated with local law enforcement partners to prevent the attack.

Law enforcement officials said they will use all available resources to investigate a school threat until they determine whether it is credible.

“Investigating hoax threats drains law enforcement resources and diverts us from responding to an actual crisis. Hoax threats can shut down school campuses, cause undue stress and fear amongst the public, and cost taxpayers a lot of money; not to mention ruin the future of those making the hoax threats as they’ll now have a criminal record,” FBI Houston stated in a release.
