1 dead, 2 injured after shooting at large gathering in South Acres

HOUSTON – One man was killed and two others were injured after a shooting broke out during a large gathering in southeast Houston early Sunday.

Houston police responded around 4 a.m. to the 13300 block of Cullen Boulevard, where investigators said a verbal dispute escalated into a physical confrontation. A suspect then allegedly opened fire into the crowd, prompting return fire from multiple people.

Officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department crews transported both to a hospital, where one was pronounced dead. A third man later arrived at a hospital in a private vehicle; his injuries and condition were not immediately known.

Police said one of the surviving victims fired toward the initial suspect and was wounded during the exchange. Investigators do not believe that victim struck the suspect.

According to HPD Lt. Ali, the suspect ran across the street toward a parking lot and remained at large. No arrests had been reported. The investigation is ongoing.
