A Heights family says an ongoing dispute with their mail carrier has escalated into months of missing mail — including bills, a car tag and a settlement payment.

The family says the problems started about a year ago, when their mail carrier began leaving mail on their cars instead of putting it in the mailbox.

The carrier later alleged that the family’s dog attacked her. The family disputes that claim, saying their small dog is chained when it is outside. HPD tells KPRC they are temporarily unable to verify reports of a dog attack or bite at the address due to a technical issue.

Family moves mailbox

In an effort to make deliveries easier, the family says they moved their mailbox closer to the driveway so the carrier could pull in, deliver the mail and leave.

But they say the situation only got worse.

The family says the carrier eventually stopped delivering mail to their home altogether. They say they now wait outside for deliveries, and when the carrier does not stop, they are left to confront her about their missing mail.

In one video provided by the family, the carrier can be heard telling them: “I don’t have any mail for y’all. Handle that at the station.”

Other carriers still deliver

The family says other carriers have continued to deliver to the home.

Video shows weekend carriers handing mail directly to someone outside the house. The family also provided video of an Amazon driver stopping near the home and making a delivery.

The family says this is the first time in 32 years of living at the home that they’ve had problems receiving their mail.

Family says trips to post office come up empty

They say they’ve repeatedly gone to the post office trying to find out where their missing mail is.

According to the family, management has told them there is no mail there for them.

That, they say, conflicts with delivery notifications they’ve received showing about 15 pieces of mail arriving at their address.

Maria Narvaez, who lives at the home, says the missing mail includes credit and debit cards, bills and other important documents. She says her disabled mother’s health benefits has also been affected by the missing mail.

“But what worries me the most is, what is she doing with my mail? Where is she throwing it up?” Narvaez said.

Family files police report

The family says they have filed multiple complaints with the U.S. Postal Service and have received an investigation number, but say they have not received answers about where their missing mail is.

They have also filed a police report alleging mail theft.

Narvaez says the family is not asking for special treatment — they simply want their mail delivered.

“I just want my mail delivered,” she said.

The family says they are still waiting for answers from USPS about the missing mail and the carrier’s delivery practices. USPS was contacted for a response to the family’s allegations, and as of airtime, has not heard back.
