By Monday night, Mitchellโ€™s bio was already removed from the TSU Board of Regents webpage. In January, the Board of Regents voted to put Lane would be put on administrative leave with pay during an investigation. A month later, the Board of Regents voted 6-1 to fire Lane. HOUSTON โ€“ The former president of Texas Southern University on Thursday talked about the decision of the schoolโ€™s board to fire him. At Thursdayโ€™s news conference, Lane said he has already submitted an eight-page rebuttal to the boardโ€™s four-page termination notice that he was given on Tuesday night. He accuses the board of robbing him of his right to a public hearing when he was placed on leave. They didnโ€™t afford us that opportunity,โ€ Lane said. He said he believes the boardโ€™s decision may have been motivated by the changes he has made.

HOUSTON โ€“ There were angry outbursts from the crowd late Tuesday night as the Texas Southern University Board of Regents announced that they voted 6-1 to fire President Austin Lane. โ€œAs far as we know, (Lane) has done a great job.โ€Lane said he plans to fight every allegation against him. Lane failed to appropriately act on or inform the Board about allegations of fraud committed by the former law school official, including evidence of a student payment for admission to the school. It also found that Dr. Lane and his assistant attempted to direct another former law school official to misrepresent a report to a national law school accreditation review board. Lane told KPRC 2 he was โ€œcaught off guard,โ€ by the decision and hadnโ€™t heard from anyone on the board at the time.

HOUSTON โ€“ Texas Southern University Board of Regents addressed why they made the decision to place the schoolโ€™s president on paid administrative leave. In November, a TSU employee was fired over admissions issues. Lane told KPRC 2 he was caught off guard when he first heard of the news. The board replaced Lane with Kenneth Huewitt as acting president. We thank the TSU community for its patience while we balance the competing interests of respect for ongoing internal investigations and external criminal investigations with the desire to provide additional context for our recent Board action.
