Whitley is the top pitching prospect in baseball

HOUSTON – Houston Astros spring training begins this week with pitchers and catchers reporting on Wednesday and the first workout is Thursday morning, February 14.

Among the group making their first appearance at Astros Spring Training will be Forrest Whitley, the Astros first round draft pick in 2016.

He has vaulted to the top of prospect lists as the top pitching propsect in the organization and top overall pitching prospect in baseball according to MLB pipeline. Whitley has racked up 196 strikeouts in 132 innings in his minor league career and posted a 0.99 WHIP at Corpus Christi (AA) over eight appearances last season.

"I feel like I'm close (to reaching the major leagues)," Whitley said. "I just want to do what I can to get there as soon as possible."

Whitley added his mind is definitely focused on getting the call to make his major league debut.

"I think about it every day, all the time, every day."
