Game 1: Lake Travis vs Rockwall

Time: Fri, 9/10 7:30 PM

Location: Wilkinson-Sanders Memorial Stadium (1215 T L Townsend Dr., Rockwall, TX 75087

Preview: Lake Travis keeps its tough pre-district schedule going with a trip up to DFW to take on undefeated Rockwall this Friday. Both teams have had strong offensive starts to the season, with Lake Travis averaging 46 points and Rockwall averaging 58 points respectively. Lake Travis will need something similar to the 4 turnovers they created against Judson to put the brakes on the Rockwall offense. The Yellowjackets QB Braeden Locke passed for an impressive 420 yards and 5 touchdowns against Strake Jesuit and the Yellowjackets will look to rely on him against this strong Cavalier squad.

Game 2: Vandegrift vs San Angelo Central

Time: Fri, 9/10 7:00 PM

Location: San Angelo Stadium (1919 Knickerbocker Rd., San Angelo, TX 76904)

Preview: After wins against rival Cedar Park and Ellison, Vandegrift travels west to take on 2-0 San Angelo Central. This will be the first matchup between the 2 programs in their history, and the Vipers will have their hands full. The Bobcats have started off strong on the ground this season, last week having 3 rushers of more than 100 yards, and will look to do more of the same against Vandegrift.

Game 3: Pleasanton vs Jourdanton

Time: Fri, 9/10 7:30 PM

Location: Indian Stadium (200 Zanderson Ave., Jourdanton, TX 78026)

Preview: After nearly 50 years, it seems like the cross town rivalry, dubbed The Highway 97 Rivalry, between Pleasanton and Jourdanton is here to stay. After not having played each other since 1961, Pleasanton and Jourdanton renewed their rivalry in 2016 and have played each 3 of the last 5 years heading into this weeks matchup. Last year was Jourdanton's first win in the Rivalry since 1957 and they will look to continue that streak Friday. They will have their work cut out for them having to replace star QB Cole Andrus. They come into the contest still looking for their first win on the season after losses to Natalia and Calallen to start the year. Meanwhile Pleasanton starts the year 1-1 and will look to improve upon their 3-8 season from a year ago. They hope to use this game, and the other non-district games, to get them ready for district play where they have only won 1 game in the last 3 seasons.

Game 4: Liberty Hill vs Georgetown

Time: Fri, 9/10 7:00 PM

Location: Birkelbach Field (2275 N Austin Ave., Georgetown, TX 78626)

Preview: After a shaky Week 1 versus Ellison, Liberty Hill bounced back in Week 2 with a convincing 62-6 win over Del Valle. Likewise, Georgetown came back from their Week 1 loss to win 62-39 over Copperas Cove. This game will be all about each team continuing to find their grove as district play approaches. Liberty Hill will of course continue to shore up their run game, having yet to complete a pass so far, leaning on the likes of Noah Long, Logan Dyer and Grady Finn. Meanwhile Georgetown will be more mixed relying on 3rd year started Darson Herman at Quarterback, Marquis Dominguez at Wide Receiver and Running Back Devin Ross. This one will likely come down to which defense can make the stops when it counts.

Game 5: Taft vs Holmes

Time: Fri, 9/10 7:00 PM

Location: Gustafson Stadium (7001 Culebra Rd., San Antonio, TX 78238)

Preview: In this District 29-6A opener, Holmes finds itself undefeated on the season matching its win total for the last 3 years combined! Taft is also 2-0 after a 7 point victory over SA Veterans Memorial 42-35. Running Back TJ Andrews led the charge last week with 315 yards and 2 touchdowns, and will look to do more of the same Friday. Taft leads the series (17-15-1) and has not lost to Holmes since 2011. Holmes will look to end that streak and keep its impressive start to the season going this Friday
