3 ways to save more money this Halloween, without sacrificing the fun

Admit it: You're psyched about Halloween inching closer, aren't you? No shame — we are, too!

What we're not excited about is the price tag on all things Halloween. There are actually more ways to save than you might think.

Here are three ways you can do it up right without going broke:

1. Make your own costume. You know how you know when something is done right? When you do it yourself. Why would this be any different? You can spend very little to buy whatever you need: pants, shirt, shoes, jewelry, bags, props — we could go on — and make it in and out of Goodwill with a pocket that's still full of money. Bonus: The store won't sell any clothes that are not in good condition, so, depending on your costume, you could potentially have some clothes for all the other days of the year, too.

2. Deck out the kids. We know how tempting it is to go all out on your kids when they're little, but if they're young enough, let's be honest, you'll get a few good pictures and they'll never remember it. The older kiddos typically just want to be their favorite superhero, fireman, cop, Disney character or princess. Dare we say: Why spend so much money then? Stroll through the Goodwill aisles and you're going to find all those costumes at a fraction of retail store prices. That means, if you're willing, you can buy the extra pieces to really deck them out. How cool will that make them feel?

3. Party time! If you're throwing a party, you know you'll be spending enough on food and drinks. Why dump a ton into decorations, too? Take a peek through decorations at the store to fill in the spaces that way. You can also take a peek at dishes, other wall decor and various items to see how you can make your unique party a hit.

If you really just want a costume out of a bag, you can find plenty of options there, too!
