Zoo Lights among holiday fun this weekend

HOUSTON – Fun festivities are happening all around town to ring in the season. Holiday events are taking place from Houston to Galveston.

Zoo Lights is a light show unlike any other and at the Houston Zoo. Approximately 300,000 lights are shining bright to transform the zoo into a winter wonderland.

Local 2 is excited to take you and your family on a special tour of Zoo Lights. It's a brand new Holiday tradition at the Houston Zoo, and Local 2 is a proud sponsor. Zoo Lights: A Wild Holiday Celebration takes you behind the scenes and what it takes to make it happen. It airs Friday on KPRC Local 2 at 7 p.m.

The Mayor's Holiday Celebration and Tree Lighting will also help get you into the Holiday spirit. The spectacular event is a Holiday tradition complete with music, family fun and fireworks. A towering 63-foot White Fir holiday tree will glow with energy efficient LED lights to light up the streets of downtown Houston. Dennis Edwards and The Temptations Review is the headliner.

The tree lighting celebration is Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hermann Square at City Hall, 901 Bagby Street. The event is open and free to the public.

And in Galveston, Dickens on the Strand and the Festival of Lights at Moody Gardens are taking place this weekend. They will please even Scrooge.
