Woman carjacked at gunpoint outside north Harris County home

HOUSTON – A woman was carjacked at gunpoint Wednesday feet away from her mother outside a north Harris County home.

Investigators said two people pulled up in a silver Ford Focus around 2 a.m. One person, armed with a gun, approached the woman while her mother was inside a home off of Kuykendahl. The gunman took the woman's blue Chevy Cruze before both suspects sped away.

Surveillance video obtained by Channel 2's Sofia Ojeda shows the Focus drive by the women's house as the daughter gets out of the car. Next, you see the suspected carjackers turn around, a man jump out and then into the woman's car before speeding away. The daughter then runs into the house, the video shows.

The mother called 911 and Harris County Sheriff's Office District 1 patrol deputies found both vehicles at a corner store at the intersection of Northborough Drive and Rushcreek Boulevard. The deputy tried to stop the vehicles but both drivers sped away.

Deputies said the driver of the Chevy Cruze went north on Northborough, then east on Rankin and tried to turn onto Rich Borough, but lost control and crashed into a fence where he was taken into custody.

He faces armed carjacking and evading charges.

The driver of the Focus was last seen going south on North Freeway.
