Missing boxer reunited with owner

UH professor recognizes dog from flyers posted around town

HOUSTON – A missing dog was reunited with his owner on Monday night.

Desiree Velasco said her boxer Chamba had been missing since Friday at 10 p.m. after a car accident at the intersection of San Jacinto Street and McGowen Street in midtown.

"The airbags deployed. Even before I could regain consciousness, my dog ran from the scene. He was so rattled that he jumped from my car window and fled the scene in a blind panic. He is a 5-year-old Flashy Faun boxer," she said.

Velasco said her dog roamed the streets for days. She said Chamba had a microchip, but it was reward flyers that brought her furry friend home.

A professor from UH found the dog and called Velasco after he recognized the pup from the flyers she posted around town.

She was thrilled to have her beloved pet back.

"I immediately started crying," Velasco said.
