Man wanted in fatal beating, sex assault

Johnathan Renard Castaneda charged with aggravated sexual assault, murder charge may follow

HOUSTON – A man is wanted in connection with a fatal beating at a southeast Houston home.

Houston police said a group of people got into an argument in a home on Van Fleet Street near Jutland Road at 1 a.m. Friday.

Investigators said Johnathan Renard Castaneda, 25, used all types of objects in the home to beat the two women and two men.

"The house is in very much disarray. There isn't an item or piece of furniture that hasn't been broken or damaged," said C.E. Elliot with the Houston Police Department.

Police said Baron Keith Armstrong died from his injuries.

"The last thing I saw was his smile," friend Marie Brown said. "He had a hell of a smile ... a friendly person."

One of the women managed to get outside, but collapsed in the street.

"They found a woman laying out on the street -- appeared to have been beaten," said Elliot.

According to homicide investigators, the argument started when the keys to Armstrong's vehicle disappeared.

"The suspect started beating everybody," Elliot said.

The three victims who survived were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

One of the women was also sexually assaulted, investigators said.

"This man didn't show no feeling at all," said the woman who police said was sexually assaulted. "He just kept hitting and stomping (Armstrong).

Casteneda has been charged with aggravated sexual assault. Police said he may also be charged with murder.

Anyone with information regarding Casteneda's whereabouts is asked to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
