Home invaders tie up teens, ransack home

HOUSTON – Deputies are searching for three men who forced their way inside a northwest Harris County home, tied up two teens and ransacked the house.

It happened in the 7000 block of Shasta Square on Wednesday.

"I was home when it happened. It could have happened to me," said neighbor Kelly Pena.

Pena, 15, and her neighbors said they're shaken up since hearing about the armed robbery and home invasion.

Investigators said two brothers, ages 13 and 15, were home alone when one of them heard a knock at the door. Officials said when he opened the door, a stranger asked if his parents were home.

When the teen said no, investigators said three men rushed inside and tied up both brothers at gunpoint.

Investigators said as the boys were tied up, the robbers went throughout the home looking for valuables. They took a safe and two weapons, investigators said.

Harris County Sheriff's deputies said they have no leads on the suspects and don't know if they have targeted other homes in the area.

One woman, who didn't want to be identified, said she thought her neighborhood was safe, but now she's afraid. She said crime has become overwhelming in the area. She said houses on both sides of hers have been broken into, and she isn't surprised what happened to the family across the street.

Pena said she's usually home alone, and now she's not taking any chances with her safety.

"I don't open the door. I don't even look out the window. If I'm home alone, and someone doesn't call me before coming over, I don't even open the door," Pena said.

Descriptions of the robbers have not been released.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
