HOUSTON – This week's U.S. Drought Monitor update shows that Houston is holding steady from last week in terms of drought severity. Most of Harris County remains in a severe drought. While it sounds ominous, it's better than the 35% of Texas that suffers from extreme or exceptional drought.

You may remember the crashing thunder that woke many around Houston in the wee hours of the morning on April 11. That night, many locations around Houston picked up an inch or more of rainfall. It was the last soaking we've gotten, but it wasn't enough to turn the tide in the direction away from extreme drought as we head into summer.
The most rain-starved areas of the state include extreme south Texas and the Rio Grande Valley, along with north-central Texas.
Our next chance for rain should come on Tuesday, April 23.
