Sigma Nu suspends activities of Texas A&M chapter amid death investigation

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Sigma Nu fraternity suspended activities of its chapter at Texas A&M on Wednesday as the investigation into the death of a student at the frat house during the weekend continues.

College Station police said Anton Gridnev, 19 and a member of the fraternity, was found unconscious at the frat house Saturday morning. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Investigators determined he died from a drug overdose.

Michael Frymire, 20, and Samuel Patterson, 21, have been charged with possession of a controlled substance. Ty Robertson, 21, and Christian Sandford, 18, have been charged with possession of marijuana. Others were also cited with possession of drug paraphernalia.

In a statement released Thursday, the fraternity said the membership of the four arrested was suspended earlier, citing fraternity rules that prohibit the illegal possession and use of drugs by its members.

Sigma Nu executive director Brad Beacham released the following statement:

"Anton's family and friends remain in our thoughts and prayers as we continue to grieve his death. We are deeply troubled by information released by the College Station Police Department and remain prepared to assist, however possible, with the investigation by local authorities. At the appropriate time, the Fraternity and University will complete their own investigations."

Investigators are still determining what drug Gridnev had ingested.
