Police investigate potential threat at Sam Houston High School

HOUSTON – A potential threat put one HISD high school on lockdown Wednesday afternoon.

It happened at around 1:30 p.m. at Sam Houston High School. According to HISD officials, increased security was on hand to investigate the threat. The district would not confirm what that threat was.

"Additional HISD police officers and security personnel are at Sam Houston High School as a precautionary measure while police investigate a potential threat to the campus. At this time all students are safe while the school in lockdown status. Please know we take these situations very seriously, as the safety of our students is always our top priority. We will continue to monitor the situation and update parents and the school community as necessary," HISD released in a statement.

Students tell Local 2 they were shuffled into an auditorium during the lockdown. Others stayed put in their classrooms. "I thought someone was going to come in the school. I thought someone was going to come after us probably," said Student Vanessa Diaz.
   
"You think the worse. You don't know if the kids are safe or if the school is safe," said Parent Iris Delcid.

The lockdown was lifted after the campus was secured and students were released in staggered dismissal, starting at 3:15 p.m.
