Police believe sleeping driver caused fatal Houston crash

22-year-old driver killed

HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating after a 22-year-old driver was killed in a two-car crash at 5300 E. Sam Houston Parkway South Saturday at 5:35 a.m.

HPD officials said a red Toyota Camry was westbound on the east Sam Houston Parkway service road. Police believe the driver of the Camry fell asleep at the wheel, causing the car to run into the back of a red Hyundai Accent stopped at a red light.

The driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
