Passenger killed after vehicle hits tree, splits in two

HOUSTON – A man was killed late Thursday in a wreck that split a vehicle in two.

According to Houston police, the man was one of two passengers in a car traveling on west on Bissonnet Street around 10:15 p.m.

Officers said the driver was speeding, and the driver lost control near South Gessner Road. The vehicle swerved, crashing into a median in the middle of the road and a tree.

The impact of the wreck split the car into two pieces, and the passenger in the front seat died on impact.

The driver and a passenger sitting in the backseat of the car were transported to Ben Taub Hospital in serious, but stable condition.

Officers planned to test the driver's blood to determine whether he was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
