New video released in Spring High School stabbing trial

HOUSTON – The jury in the Spring High School stabbing trial now has new evidence to consider. New video from the day police say an 18-year-old stabbed another student inside the high school was released Monday.

In court Monday for the first time jurors saw video giving a partial glimpse of the chaos that unfolded inside the school.

Luis Alonzo Alfaro, 18, is charged in the stabbing death of 17-year-old Joshua Broussard. Prosecutors say Alfaro carried out the attack on Broussard and three others as part of a gang retaliation.

They claim Alfaro belonged to a gang called Brown Pride that had been involved in a fight over a girl the day before. Alfaro and others were allegedly looking to even the score.

They may have picked the wrong target. Police sources said Broussard was not involved in the earlier fight and was not a gang member himself.

Alfaro's defense attorney says police got the wrong suspect and that Alfaro couldn't have stabbed Broussard in the few seconds the two were in the hallway together.

Prosecutors have subpoenaed a total of 39 witnesses to testify in the trial. The prosecution could rest their case Tuesday.
