New video, medical records released in Sandra Bland investigation

WALLER COUNTY, Texas – Waller County officials released new surveillance video Tuesday of Sandra Bland in the county jail before her death.

It shows Bland's booking process on July 10 and the moment she took her mugshot. Rumors have spread she was already dead in the photo.

"Unfortunately, you've got people putting information out there that is trying to convince people that she was murdered and deceased before she came to the Waller County Jail," said Judge Trey Duhon.

On Saturday, the video shows Bland making her first court appearance where Judge Delores Hargrave reads her charges and sets her bond.

Later, you see her talking on the phone for 22 minutes. Officials said she made six to seven calls from the booking desk, despite having a phone in her jail cell.

"Since she was having so much trouble getting someone to answer her phone call, I think just as a person, this jailer allowed her to use the phone," said Capt. Brian Cantrell with the Waller County Sheriff's Office.

They said it appeared she had trouble paying her bond.

"I truly wish she would've bonded out," said Duhon.

Judge Duhon said they released the video because they've received death threats by phone, email and internet, including from the group Anonymous calling for a day of rage against Waller County.

Duhon said the video was evidence she was "alive and well" before her death.

"There's no footage that indicates to me that Ms. Bland was treated unfairly, or mishandled or mistreated in any way shape or form."

County officials also released her medical records showing she requested Tylenol twice while she was in the county jail.
