NASA celebrates 47th anniversary of moon landing

HOUSTON –  Wednesday marks the anniversary of a very important accomplishment by mankind, it's the 47th anniversary of the moon landing.

On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 touched down on the lunar surface at 3:18 p.m. central time.

It only had 30 seconds worth of fuel remaining.

It had taken off on the morning of July 16, carrying Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins.

A little over six hours later, with more than half a billion people watching, Armstrong became the first man to set foot on the moon.

KPRC Channel 2 was the station that broadcast the moon landing to the world.
