KONA, Hawaii – Today is the day!
After months of preparation and training, KPRC2 meteorologist Eric Braate is competing in the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.
KPRC2 and Eric have teamed up with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to do something amazing. LLS does incredible work to assist blood cancer patients and their families. It also funds cutting-edge research to advance treatments and to zero in on a cure.
On Saturday, Eric completed the swim portion of the IRONMAN World Championship, 1 hour and 16 minutes at a 01:59 per 100-meter pace.
Eric finished the 112-mile bike ride within 6 hours and 51 minutes and 20 seconds. He kept an average pace of 16.40 mph.
After completing the cycling portion, he now begins the marathon.
Eric is nearing the 10 mile mark of the marathon and has 16 more miles to go. His estimated finish time is at 1:47 a.m.
How is he still going strong?! He got a little pep in his step post bike!!
